Constructing a new substation adjacent to the existing substation in Harker. The works are required as part of the Harker Energy Enablement Project comprising of new GIS substation buildings (400kV and 132kV) and 6 super grid transformers.
The construction of the new LNG storage tank at Isle of Grain LNG Terminal forms part of the Capacity 25 (CAP25) expansion project, designed to increase the terminal’s storage capacity and strengthen the UK’s energy infrastructure. The project includes the development of a 190,000 m³ full-containment LNG tank, incorporating a 9% nickel steel inner tank and a pre-stressed concrete outer shell constructed using slipform techniques.
The project at London Bridge Station involved the provision of a new concourse at street level, with enterances on Tooley Street and St Thomas Street. This increased passenger capacity through the station from c. 50m to c. 75m.
BCL are suppled labour and supervision on the £160m Gatwick Airport station upgrade project which is being managed by Network Rail in partnership with the Department for Transport and Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR). Gatwick Airport Ltd and Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership are co-funding the project with £37 million and £10 million respectively and GTR, the train company that operates Gatwick Express, Thameslink and Southern services will operate a dedicated timetable during the project. BCL provided supervision and all construction trades on the Evap D Project from 2009 until completion in 2018. This project is the largest nuclear decommissioning project in the UK. We were able to directly employ all our workforce with over 90% recruitment from the west Cumbria area. Key challenges on this project included, a congested site, a very complex design all based on a very tight footprint. The project also achieved one million man hours on site without a lost time incident.
Bowercross completed another project on the HS2 enabling works. The team assisted with the large scale archaeology excavation which took place at St James Gardens, Euston. Due to the sensitive nature of these works, the BCL team and the archaeologists worked closely together to successfully overcome all the challenges encountered throughout the project. BCL also supplied a team of miners to excavate deep shafts for the columns of the scaffold structure erected to protect the site. The shafts were nearly all excavated by hand to ensure the works were carried out in a dignified manner.
CL completed 10 bridges on this scheme with spans ranging from 40 metres to 70 metres. Three of these completed using pre cast beams and omnia deck. The major bridge was the M4 itself which had to be completed in possession work and road closures with live traffic and in some cases 24 hour working was essential to reach project milestones. Pre cast beams were in excess of 30tonnes and varied in shape
