Project Overview

Quinn Glass is a Bottle production filling and distribution facility.

Completed all the concrete works on this project from pile caps, to large foundation bases up to 10metres deep, through to high quality flooring slabs in excess of 25,000 m2.
The project was extremely programme sensitive, and our works were integral with the critical path for the installation of plant and machinery.

Our

Scope of Works

BCL delivered a comprehensive package of labour and supervision services across all major construction phases of the project.

Project Overview

Completed all reinforced concrete works for the Quinn Glass Facility bottle production, filling and distribution facility. The scope covered all structural concrete packages from deep foundations through to high-performance industrial flooring. The works were integral to the project’s critical path, enabling timely installation of plant and machinery on a programme-sensitive site

Foundations and Substructure Works

The project involved substantial substructure works to create a robust base for the industrial facility: Excavation and preparation of the site for reinforced concrete works Installation of pile caps and large foundation bases up to 10 metres deep Placement and curing of high‑strength concrete to design tolerances Coordination with structural and geotechnical requirements These elements provided essential support for the building’s superstructure and heavy production equipment.

Concrete Superstructure and Structural Elements

Concrete superstructure works formed the primary load‑bearing frame of the facility: Reinforced concrete columns and beams Concrete walls and support structures interfacing with services and plant Quality assurance checks on reinforcement and concrete placement Compliance with structural design specifications and tolerances These works ensured the building’s framework accommodated all operational loads and plant support requirements.

Industrial Flooring and Slab Works

A major element of the contract was the delivery of industrial floor slabs capable of supporting heavy production and distribution activity: Placement of high‑quality flooring slabs in excess of 25,000 m² Use of jointed and reinforced concrete techniques suitable for heavy loading Surface finishing and curing to meet plant installation and operational requirements Integration of services and thresholds within slab construction These slabs provided durable, high‑performance surfaces for production, storage and transport operations.

Health and Safety Management

Given the scale, depth of foundations and programme sensitivity, safety was a primary focus: Preparation and implementation of site‑specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) Daily toolbox talks, safety briefings and enforcement of PPE standards Supervision of excavations, concrete pours and working‑at‑height activities Regular safety inspections and compliance with UK construction safety regulations Proactive safety measures ensured a controlled site environment and minimised risks during complex

Labour Supply and Resource Management

The successful delivery of this extensive concrete package relied on structured labour and resource planning: Mobilisation of experienced concrete operatives, reinforcement fixers, formwork carpenters, and supervisors Allocation of labour in line with the critical path and key construction milestones Coordination between subcontractors, site management and supply chain partners Maintaining productivity levels while upholding quality and safety standards This labour strategy ensured works were completed efficiently and in alignment with the overall project programme.

Key Challenges & Solutions

Delivering major works within a complex infrastructure environment presented significant engineering and logistical challenges requiring innovative solutions from our teams.

Deep Foundation Works

Challenge: Constructing large foundation bases up to 10 metres deep posed significant technical and safety challenges, particularly in terms of excavation stability, reinforcement placement, and concrete quality. Solution: A detailed excavation and formwork plan was implemented, including shoring and temporary support systems. Reinforcement and concrete placement were closely monitored with strict QA/QC procedures, ensuring structural integrity while maintaining programme continuity.

Programme-Sensitive Critical Path

Challenge: The concrete works were integral to the critical path for plant and machinery installation, requiring precise sequencing and timely completion. Any delays risked affecting the overall project schedule. Solution: A proactive programme management strategy was adopted, including daily progress meetings, coordinated labour scheduling, and phased pours to ensure continuous workflow. This approach allowed all milestones to be met efficiently, keeping the project on track.

Large-Scale Industrial Flooring

Challenge: Delivering high-quality concrete flooring over 25,000 m² for heavy-duty operations required maintaining consistent surface quality, flatness, and curing, despite the scale of the area. Solution: Experienced finishing teams were deployed with specialised screeding, jointing, and curing techniques. Continuous monitoring of concrete mix, temperature, and moisture conditions ensured slabs met design specifications and were ready for immediate plant installation.
